NECRODEATH
(Italy) “Black As Pitch” (CD) - Scarlet Records 2001.-
I have no words to comment a bestiality like this, as always
without mercy from the beginning, “Red As Blood” begins this
jewel, really quick and with great brutality. We are already
amused to all this when it’s about a band that everyone
commented on the past, they returns with a violence without
precedents, “Riot of Stars”, in this track is shaped the essence
of this beast, with devastating drums, that destroys brains with
rawness, the riffs are really impure and worthy of an insane and
rotted mind, “Burn And total Deny” total mosh!!!, soon comes the
success “Mortal Consequence”, one of the themes with greater
emotional and violence load in all the album, “Sacrifice 2K1”, a
very technical theme, many changes rule, precision and howls
totally macabre, “Process Of Violation”, a heavy song that
denotes much resentment, one of the best themes, it has a very
good video clip. Then comes “Anagaton”, bestiality and
demolition guaranteed from the first second, a song that becomes
more and more morbid and dark, a catchy beginning and a very
dense end; then “Killing Time”, a cruel experience, it’s one of
the successes, “Saviors Of Hate” follows, frightful and
addictive, a theme that will leave your nerves excited by a very
uncontrollable hammer, a macabre symphony that accompanied by
frightening howls gives like result this monstrous track; “Join
The Pain”, it’s an authentic pain, sonic loathing guaranteed!
The last theme is “Church' s Black Book”, an abominable song and
the longest with 8'07”, it’s a hallucinating song, that speaks
about the massive exterminations of innocent victims, in name of
the Church, in the end, they mention many dates of massacres,
crusades that the Church originated and the morbid violence that
it brought with it, very interesting, at the end of the disc
there’s a 5 seconds ghost track but there is absolutely nothing,
it only says “Ghost Track”. It’s not necessary to say that this
disc is indispensable and that NECRODEATH is a cult band, you do
not have another option but obtaining this disc no matter what,
you cannot let pass a beast like this, SCARLET hit the nail on
the head signing NECRODEATH, this album was recorded and mixed
nothing less than in the Underground Studios from Sweden, with
this I think all has been said, in Japan the album has been
licensed by SOUNDHOLIC, this fourth album of this band formed in
1984 must be owned by all true Death Black Thrash Maniac, buy it
right now, the copies suckkkk!!!!!

Before beginning this review, I must and I want thank Jhon, for
all his support and courtesy when I was in Genoa, thanks for the
signed discs, as well as for the considerations that you have
had towards DEATHTHRASHER, we also hope to correspond with a
good work ;).
Well, the band NECRODEATH doesn’t need introducing; they are one
of the greater standards in the Italian scene, one of the most
legendary and recognizable bands than the warboot country has
seen rise! After the delivery of a compilation disc called “20
Years of Noise” that was released the last year (2005), after 2
decades of the launching of the devastating demo “The shinning
Pentagram”, it was expected with anxieties the new production of
these Genovese guys! Finally I have in my hands the “100% Hell”
that I think is not necessary to say than it’s a professionally
printed disc in couch paper, the booklet is fatty, it contains
all the lyrics, as well as several photos of the guys, the
predominant colors are the grays and the red ones. Something
that I do must stress out is that the disc has a very special
guest, nothing else and nothing less than the insane Cronos!
Ok, no more introductions! This disc contains 10 themes, the
first is “February 5th, 1984”, is a quiet disturbing intro, only
with spoken vocals that begin saying “You are a slave like
everyone else (…)” in an infernal tone, the voice is from Cronos
himself! Excellent way to open the next theme, indeed titled
“Forever slaves”, written by Paco (RAZA DE ODIO’s guitarist) and
the furious Peso, it begins with a morbid riff and with a fast,
devastating tempo, the vocals of Flegias are more infernal than
ever, what a great energy and speed unfold these Italians!! In
addition this theme contains also some spoken parts that are
performed again by Cronos! I am surprised with such fury that
they have injected to this album, aaarrrggghhhhhh! The next
massacre is “War Paint”, a fast tempo assaults again, it
diminishes per moments, specially in the middle, the variation
of tempos goes marked by the bass of Jhon, and the percussion of
Peso, this is a Thrash/Death Metal with some modern elements,
the Flegias’ voice appears with different registers helped by
the effects, that gives variability to the songs. We follow with
“Masters of Morphine”, this theme is very special for us, not
only because it’s indeed very good, but because our
DEATHTHRASHER appears in the video-clip (which, by the way, it
has been released recently in the official page of NECRODEATH,
have you seen it? It’s godamn great!), “Masters of morphine” is,
in fact, one of the most well obtained themes in this album, it
begins with an acoustic guitar that Andy continues, and then
Jhon with a very strong bass, then follow the whispering but
aggressive vocals in a unpronounceable language, to give step to
the first blows of Peso, everything is perfectly fitting, very
good mixing work in this album, it’s rewarding to listen a good
album with a good sound, a good mixing, a good production and
such great musicians! My respect to “100% Hell”, the choir
repeats “Sudden Death”! which is like a direct shot to your
brains, soon a solo by Andy, where he shows his abilities in the
strings, in the end the acoustic guitar returns and the
whispering vocals from the beginning, which closes the circle.
The fourth theme is “The wave”, it follows the same line of the
previous themes, modernity and clarity go by the hand with a
remarkable aggressiveness and experience, the tempo as always
begins without give you time to breathe, it’s incredible! The
themes speaks about the destruction that appears in the
frightful way of tsunamis, the riff here is old-school, similar
to the one of “The Ripper” by JUDAS PRIEST, this song ends with
a violent tempo that finishes with sounds of waves and distant
gulls that make you remember the sea, I didn’t expect that. We
continue with “Theoretical and Artificial”, which begins with a
modern riff in contrast to the riff that we have just listened
in “The wave”, this theme has several passages, with cruel
spoken voices and riffs that we listen suddenly, then short but
incredibly exciting speed again and riffs that leads you quickly
to the end of the song, that suddenly finishes; without warning
we are already listening to the seventh theme “Identity crisis”,
which includes a feminine French voice that speaks in a somewhat
mechanical way and in the background we can listen to short but
great notes in violin (I’ve always liked the passion that the
violin contributes musically) that work later like “additional
riff” and like “solo”, many ingredients have been added to
materialize this theme, which it’s the most modern and
atmospheric. We follow with the song “Beautiful-Brutal World”
that speaks about the influence of mass media in the thought and
behavior of the human beings, yes, this time the band has left
their dark explicit subjects and Peso is showing greater
variability in his composer side. We can say that “Ton(e)s of
hate” was advancing this type of changes in the band, that is
more versatile than ever, as much in music as in lyrics. The
penultimate theme is “Hyperbole”, it’s shortest one with only
55”, composed by Peso, it’s a quite intimate song with a lyric
that is practically a one verse poem, performed by whispering
voices and an acoustic guitar also played by Peso. Suddenly the
last theme that gives title to the album “100% Hell” arrives,
and truly I believe that it conceptualize musically the hell
itself! If you had to descend at hell’s most deep as Orpheus,
everything that you would listen I am sure it’s in this song!
Peso commented that many reviews have described unjustly this
song like “a mere summary as all the previous stuff”, which is
false, Flegias and Peso wrote this theme inspired by the
universal book “The divine comedy” by Dante, from where they
take some lyrics in old Italian, in words of Peso himself this
song “it’s a fantastic trip towards hell”, through 9’38” we go
through many different passages, the song mainly keeps a mid-tempo,
for adding coherently wicked feminine voices that repeat “In the
name of evil, in the name of sacrifice”, lamentations and sobs
of some souls in the distant, and more serious tenebrous voices…
soon the tempo is disappearing and we listen some spirits
suffering with really undergravelike voices. Later the faster
tempo from the beginning returns and we again listen to the
voice of Flegias that ends disappearing little by little. We
just have crossed the 9 circles.
Excellent delivery of the Masters NECRODEATH, where they have
unfolded their creation abilities and the experience of more
than 20 years releasing detonating records, do not hesitate in
buy this jewel no matter what and you’ll be able to enjoy an
impossible trip that only NECRODEATH could recreate.
Indispensable, you will kill to get it!!!
